It's a sad fact that the government favors space exploration over researching our own oceans. Not only is it more expensive to do so, but we have already gathered more information regarding our moon than our seas. Only 1% of the world's oceans have been examined, and at this rate we will have made contact with extraterrestrial life before we know half of what lies beneath the waves. Don't get me wrong, I love astronomy and even considered it as a double major, but we need to learn to walk before we run. Understanding our own planet is just as important as exploring new ones. Why bother spending billions of dollars to launch a rocket when we can take a small submarine and gather just as much information about something a little closer to home? Just a thought...

Another awkward first post...
I never really thought I'd be one to blog and yet, here I am. I finally caved in and I'm excited to see where this will take me. This blog is going to bit a bit scattered until I really decide what I want to do with it. But for now, it is what it is. A new semester has started and I'm excited to say I finally made it into the Marine Biology course. For those that don't know me well, I'm a bit of an ocean geek. So this will probably be another place for me to post science articles or interesting things about the sea in general.
